haven’t listened yet obviously but I really like Plurk. It is more of a conversation than twitter as messages are threaded.
Unfortunately Plurk like Twitter are now blocked from work so I am barely seen on either anymore
June 19th, 2008 at 3:13 am
Re Plurk; It’s ok… not especially great. I don’t imagine it will replace Twitter. Also I haven’t been able to find a “Search” function so you can search for people you know.
If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel, then scrolling your wheel up and down will make the timeline go left and right.
Re John’s Background Switcher; Looks like it might be good. I might even install it.
Re Cait’s Blog; 2 lines of text and one picture do not make a blog entry! There’s gotta be rules written somewheres about that…
Re Knightwise; No comment.
Re Syncplicity; I’ve been looking for a backup solution, but I don’t know if I want my data “in the cloud”. With all the cheap TB drives running around these days, someone really needs to make a simple backup utility for Windoze users.
More comments when I think of them…

CHICKENS?!
You intro’d me with freakin’ CHICKENS?!?!?!?!

Slimdevices has been around for a while. There’s a free streaming application up on their website. You should be able to stream to any sorta device with the software. And you know what example I’d normally give.
haha.

Sorry to hear about your grandfather.
Great show again. W-hey! My email was read out!
Should I admit to listening to it whilst waiting in the queue for the Apple Store to open in Sydney? Well, I was only queuing from lunchtime rather than overnight, so perhaps that’s not quite so bad, and I might have pulled in a few more listeners as people were asking what was on my iPod!
June 19th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
@Keith They call ‘em “chooks” down there…
June 20th, 2008 at 1:08 am
I was wondering if you would notice the chooks… now I know you listened to the show
.
Herne is right – chooks it is. BTW Herne – I got your voicemail after we had recorded the show – next week
BTW Keith – what is wrong with chooks?
June 20th, 2008 at 8:51 am
Quickly reading the list of items for discussion on show #87, I swear I thought it said “Pom Inspectors complain” – now that would be a nice angle even for you Aussies!

Hey Dave, I’m in the middle of Episode 87 and loving it.
First off I am very sorry to hear about your granddad. Such a great loss is always difficult, even when it might be expected – my thoughts go out to your whole family who will be feeling this loss at this time.
On the iPhone, here’s some more… the 16 GB model will be available in a choice of Black and White, while the 8 GB model will only be available in black from 11 July.
Qik.com, a mobile phone to web streaming service has just completed a video streaming application for the iPhone, which means you can stream video from your iphone directly to viewers on the web. I currently use this service with my Nokia device.
The one thing I have to agree on though, the lack of flash for the iPhone is a huge oversight. HUGE!
I was at an interesting presentation the other day and Tim Noonan was talking about iPhones and how this device was completely useless to him. I had never thought of that.
See you round on plurk, which I love! I agree with Blogslut that plurk is much more condusive to conversation and buildnig community. The only disadvantage is the karma. You need karma to do stuff, but what I’m finding is that too many friends = broadcast rather than conversation. Lessons being learned every day in my little patch of plurk!
Anyway, another thought for you all, I’m going back to listen to more of this episode.

I’m only 35 minutes into the show but….
Google has pushed a lot of updates recently in direct response S60 users and it’s webkit-ish browser. Honestly, there are a lot more Symbian mobile web users. The N95 alone doubled iPhone sales.
ps – my damn imac is late!
btw – wow! cait loves pr0n!
I had housemate like that once, but she was always drunk.

Hey guys!
Sorry to here about your Grandfather Dave! Times can be hard
I actually just returned from a funeral for a classmate(won’t give away his age, but young, way too young), who died suddenly after a standard blood transfusion (illness from birth so required often). He died within days of it happening..a sad loss…it always happens to the people that deserve to live longer! I feel for his family, and your family as well. Im sure you’ve been through it before, but I found sticking together and talking made it a bit easier.
Paypal -crap,crap,crap unless its for overseas transaction (requiring currency conversion). But I refuse to sell with it, and I refuse to use it for Australian items.
Did I mention my new 5mW laser I purchased from Hong Kong?(referring to previous show) It’s crazy, around $15au delivered. Customs left a note in the package stating “opened for inspection, no items have been removed by customs”…so you can still get them here…I ordered another 3, apparently the new law to class them as a weapon comes in force July 1 but I can’t confirm that!!
Apple Store – (don’t think it was mentioned?)..anyway…i was watching the hype from when the first lady lined up!!(1st,6th and 8th person were from MacTalk) I was also watching a live stream on ninemsn (recording from a 3G phone)….it was shocking…found another live stream on ustream, a guy walking round the store with a cam, quality was AMAZING, no idea how the guy set it up, but it was tops!!
iPhone – to many strings attached (as it would appear)…Im not interested no more!! (iPod touch is good for now!) New iPhone is actually bigger/heavier etc. 3G (data) = To expensive in Australia (+ I wouldn’t use it!) Attached to contracts…blah blah blah…
WHITE is available!! Only a white backing though and only on 16GB model.
Vista – Im installing SP1 now…hope it’s better than before, that aint hard!!
My dad is going to get a new (quite powerful, im jealous!) pc. I will only put XP on it(will support vista, and has 2GB ram cait!!), as he is quite a basic PC user. I see no advantage to running vista on 3 screen, 3 times the pain!!
Once again, good show guys!!
June 21st, 2008 at 3:13 am
Well if Doug just installed Vista SP1, then I doubt we’ll hear from him again for a while…
@Eric A drunk female housemate that likes prOn… I must think on this! Hrmmmmm… And I thought I had it good when my female housemates would wander around half dressed and ask to borrow my t-shirts. Silly me!
@iPhone Still not worth it. Come back to me when you’re useful. I’d rather get a 32GB iPod Touch.
@PayPal I use it all the time for different purchases and I really haven’t had any problems with them. I only wish it was easier to deposit money into my PayPal account without having to link a bank account to it.
June 22nd, 2008 at 2:22 am
@Herne
I think you win that round. I only had the “oops please get my stuff out of the laundry because I’m running round in a towel action once or twice”
Does anyone else think it’s odd twitter users install ugly clients instead of using something like Adium? I thought most services allow you to use standard IM clients to add content? tubmlr and jaiku for example. btw – anyone installs AIR is a nutjob. the last thing we need is more 3rd rate proprietary rubbish bogging down our systems. what, vista’s not slow enough for you people?
btw – Has anyone tried Jott? I thought it was covered on the show but I did not find anything.
ps – anyone returned to Mozilla’s joey?
June 22nd, 2008 at 7:38 pm
@Eric My Vista is speedy and I’m using Ultimate with all the bells and whistles turned on
June 22nd, 2008 at 7:38 pm
BTW, for people yet to use PMOG, there’s a crate still here, waiting to be picked up
June 22nd, 2008 at 10:27 pm
@Eric I don’t think we have covered Jott this jott at any rate: http://jott.com/
@Herne except the fact that here in Oz the 32 GIG touch has a 600+ price tag
@Doug I thought that they banned the importation of lasers into Australia – or at least the green ones…
Thanks all for the wishes and thoughts – appreciated.
Starting to think that we have about 10 listeners…
June 23rd, 2008 at 11:00 am
@Dave: iPod Touch here in Canada;
8 GB v2 – $279 16 GB v2 – $370 32 GB – $470
The price will have to drop quite a bit before I buy one. I can get a 160 GB iPod “Classic” for $340, which is about the same as what I paid for a 5th gen 80 GB.
@Eric: I was deemed “safe” by my female roomies, which is pure death for males! On the up-side, out of the 4 females that were in the same college course I was in, 2 lived with me and the other 2 were engaged. Which meant that all the other guys in my class hated me.

Good show guys
Dave my condolences, i have lost two grandparents this year so know what you are going through. On the upside, my remaining grandfather is 99. My grandfather who died most recently had served in the RAAF as a Warrant Officer through the war as he joined up before WW2. During his time he travelled all over the world, but didn’t like to talk about the war at all, even recently he still would not say much.
Back to the show, saw comments about the p0rnz, which is what the internet was invented for, was it not?
But seriously a few good apps this week and was most interested to hear about Dell and XP.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
@George my Grandfather was the same. He would have to have a few drinks before he would talk about anything to do with the war and even then it was the good stuff.
More on the Dell story in the next show…
@Herne yeah us aussies get ripped off all the time
People keep mentioning P0rn – did we talk about porn… oh yeah that’s right the inspectors… shit just remembered
LOL
June 26th, 2008 at 2:54 am
You notice how Doug hasn’t come back yet? Vista ate him!
June 28th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
@herne either that or he’s become a porn inspector and died of boredom
June 30th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Oh Im back!!!
Im back with the good ol’ XP Home. Not because of SP1, just over Vista.
Ohhhh the feeling is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better now!!
