Twitter in Plain English
I really like this series of videos. The one that I have used the most is RSS in Plain English, but now there is one for twitter!
So for those of you having trouble explaining what twitter is. Or maybe your a listener of the show (Herne) and are still asking yourself why you need twitter, a blog or anything else online; this is a good intro. It is simple enough that Dr Evil could understand it.
The video only covers the basics of twitter. I have seen just in this last week more and more integrated uses of twitter as a way of communicating and meeting people and not just on twitter, this is just the tip of the iceberg!
So here is twitter in Plain English:

Nice video. Still surprises me that somebody doesn’t know what RSS or Twitter is and is using the Internet in 2008.
Personally, I’ve tried Twitter like 3 times and still don’t get the vibe. Maybe I am the sort of person that is rarely interested in some else’s life to such a detail. If I am to read that’s somebody is drinking coffee I can very well chat about it in IM.
It’s fun I guess but no practicality in it. It’s like a modern version of the IRC. The only difference is that you don’t get 4037 ‘re’ from people when you come back to check what’s going on :).

Yes, I MIGHT be a listener to the show…
The video is well done, but I’m still trying to figure out exactly WHY someone would care if I’ve, say, gone for coffee and why exactly that I would want to Twitter that fact? Some people just go hog wild on Twitter almost to the extent of “gone for a bowel movement” and I’m trying to understand the value of that sort of information…

@Dave: Found this video a couple of days ago. Its great! The RSS one is pretty good too. Their style is simple and direct.
@Herne: Getting a note “Going for a Timmy’s Run” from a co-worker lets you know that you can 1. go along with someone, or 2. get them to bring something back.
Add to that the value of it as a subscription-based broadcast IM service for getting simple questions answered “What blogging platform do you use?” either for polling or research for yourself…
Do we need to know when, as he put it, “Knightwise farts on the Internet”? Probably not. But, to extend the metaphor, it’s nice to know that there’s a platform available that will at least let us know when the restroom is free again.
