I did not know this could happen, although I did wonder if it could. Seems that question has been answered in great style…

I have been right up close to one of these and let me tell you, they are HUGE! The blade would not only take your head off but also your roof. Take a look at the second video and check out the van in shot at the base of the turbine, see what I mean?

The reason that it failed was the fact that they have a brake built in to prevent it going too fast, it failed. The result is a runaway turbine that gets too fast and goes way beyond the envelope, result is total self destruction… It would have been a way better video if the van was totaled as well.

Pretty amazing, especially when you have an appreciation for the size of these beasts.
