Second Life GGP Hoverboard beta 1
OK so Doug burst my bubble so I thought that I had better let everyone in on what we have been up to. Tim the ex-cohost has been working on a stealth start-up: The “GGP hoverboard”. I did not know anything about it until last night.
This hoverboard rocks and it is still in beta! It started it’s life as a hovering dentists chair. Tim being the industrious type he is saw an idea and fashioned a hoverboard and scripted it to do some cool stuff. Not only does this hoverboard have the GGP logo and web address it also spews an awesome green trail of smoke. Truly RAD
We got into Second Life with cohort “Skribe” and tested out the beta version. We actually tested it out at an unreal sim called “Greenies“. I am not going to spoil this one - you have to see it for yourself. But once you take a look you’ll know why it is a great place to have a test run.
Now as I said the board is in beta so there are some issues but for the most part it was heaps of fun. It is fast and you can do jumps and tricks as well. Although the driver of a car gone postal was after Tim for a while and that was funny as well. It was probably the most fun that I have had since skydiving in SL.
Currently the plan is this;
- Iron out the scripting errors that we are seeing with the board. You’ll notice in the video that I appear to be off the board when viewed.
- Increase the maneuverability for a tighter turning circle
- Make the boards available at Cait’s Second Life Deck for free to anyone that wants one
- Anything else we can think of
I think I have that right, we will update you as time goes on. Stay tuned for the beta 2 version and no we are not going to ask you to sign up. You will have to be in the right place at the right time. Hint: Keep an eye on twitter.
Now Skribe just happens to be one of the best Second Life Video producers, He recorded some footage last night of us beta testing this beast. No it is not his best work, we just wanted to get something out quickly. So here is the footage of the testing.
I would like to thank both Tim and Skribe for their work awesome job guys thanks!
Please take a a look at what Skribe does, imagine having your office in Second Life…

Looks cool, especially hovering around a real life looking kitchen. It was funny though, seeing the model lagging behind the actual hoverboard. The only model that did that was the one that was on the TGGP board. Was that one of the issues with the board, or is this a connection issues?
