Really Really Fast Dictionary
definr dispite the glaring spelling mistake in the name is an incredibly fast, quick and easy dictionary. Web based and no reloads on hitting the “meep” key.
Based on Princeton’s open WordNet 2.0, so you know at least that it is reliable and accurate.
Some interesting facts about the service:
- Uses the Ruby on Rails framework
- The top 10,000 definitions are cached from the MySQL database, that makes it really quick
- They have developed a Definrbot algorithm that is capable of 190,000 word completions per second (without caching)
- This then translates to about 10,000 completions per second once Ruby is factored in
Quick and easy fight resolution service that even has a Firefox Extension.

Sounds really cool. Does the FireFox extension work in such a way where I can highlight a word, then click a button to look up the definition of that word within their service? If thats the case, I’m sold.
