Get SnagIt for Free

In this weeks show we mentioned that you can get Camtasia version 3.0 screen capture software for free with a cheap upgrade option. Turns out that you can also get SnagIt for free also.

The limitation for this one is that it is version 7.2.5, the latest is version 8.2. Pretty sure version 8.0 added Vista support so this earlier version won’t be any good for Vista users, bummer eh?

This is a top idea from TechSmith. As we said in the show, I can’t think of a better way to promote your current version of your product. These guys make very good products but they don’t come super cheap either. Check out the features list! So this is a great try before you buy idea. But not only that you can get SnagIt for half price should you want the latest version. Smart marketing.

So this is what you need to do:

  1. Make a visit to TechSmith and request a registration Key
  2. Check your mail
  3. Register software
  4. Converted to full version, woot

From there you can upgrade to the latest version if you wish to.

I was wondering why the heck you could not find this offer on the web site. Turns out that this was an offer made by TechSmith to readers of .NET magazine UK! Anyway, if they ask you love the mag and don’t mention your not in the UK.

I would love to have an excuse to get SnagIt, but my image editing software has great capture capabilities that are powerful and exactly what I need so I think I would get shot if I tried. Although there is always begging…

I know this has been all over the web this week but this was more for our listeners, than everyone. But if you want to join our community that would be cool too!

Great to hear. I’ll have to blog about this later today. I wonder if the FireFox SnagIT extensions works with the free version.

  2. Global Geek Says:

I see no reason why not Jeff :) I think they existed before the latest version, so even more reason that they should. It is only a few dot releases behind the latest anyway. Admittedly one of the releases was a major version release.

    Hello Dave,

Yes, you are correct. It’s version 8 that is certified for Vista.

    Jeffro2pt0,

No, I believe the add-on only works with version 8 so you would need to buy the latest version.
