When travelling I can listen to two or 3 napoleons in a row that i have not listened to. Im up to date with the geek but my monday travels normally dont tie in with your update.

Re: Leopard. It’s pretty, but is it really worth the upgrade? I still use a lot of “classic” apps in my field of work and I sort of need that “classic” environment running in the background to get some things done. At least it’s way better than Vista.

Anyone played Portal and finished it? I’m stuck near the end… darn nerve gas.

It’s a great resource for the Star Trek RP group I’m involved with.

One thing I would like is to be able to play a game in one screen and have something else open in the other screen. So far this is the only limitation I have had with the dual screens. But I don’t play games that much so not a big issue. I agree it is the flicking between one app and another that really changes things, so much faster. Like when I was doing the show notes; I was able to drag the links from one screen to the other - nice.

Its also really handy when programming autocad, you can have your program on one screen and run it in the other, no more flicking between apps

It contains Starship dimensions from SF films. I have wasted too much time on it already.

I stayed back at work last Friday till 6pm just so I could head up to Myer and get leopard. I was surprised there was about 20-30 people waiting up there to get it so it was rather interesting having a bit of a chat with them. I picked up the family pack which allows you to install on 5 computers as I have 2 iMacs but so far only installed one for reasons you will see in a moment.

Not sure if people know but the single user pack ($159AUD) and the Family Pack ($249AUD) are identical discs and have no licensing issues with the discs. You can in theory use single user disc and install it on as many machines as you want but as Pirillo mentioned in his video blog post about it it’s matter of trust. Apple trust their users and Microsft dosen’t and thus has lall that crappy activation which makes you wantto pull out your hair.

Leopard had also been leaked on to torrents last week so not sure if that cost them anything, I am sure most people would rather have the physical discs anyway.

Leopard install was anything but fine for me..see below

have had najor issues on my intel iMac. I did a clean install on Friday night (why can’t you skip disc check without failing install?) and it worked fine through till Saturday arfternnon. I needed to reboot for some reason and it wouldn’t boot, it just sat there at loading screen for ages.

I tried force boot by holding option key as a I have a bootcamp partition and all of the sudden even though I was selecting the Mac OS partition it kept booting into Windows. Tried this a few times until eventually it just failed to see the Mac partition at all.

I then tried to instal Leopard onto Windows partition by reformatting it and it started to install and then that drive disappeared as well. I tried several times to boot from the DVD and install leopard o no avail.

I then dug out my Tiger discs and tried to install Tiger and it found both partitions (now both Mac partitions) and installed eventually.

I then tried to do Migration Assistant and that took over 15 hrs to transfer from my G5 to my iMac and last I saw it had been stuck at less than a minute to go for about 3.5 hrs before I had to leave for work.

I hope it is all good when I get home or I really dunno what I am gonna do with my intel box, at least I haven’t tried to upgrade G5 yet which still has most of my data.

Anyone has ideas I am more than willing to listen.

I now have it up and running and hopefully for good and its working great after using migration assistant to transfer everything from my G5 it just like being on that machine.

I picked up a 500gb external drive for Time machine although I have a 750gb hard drive I doubt I will ever use the full amount as I will keep most of my video files on the G5 as that’s where AppleTV looks for video and it’s just easier to keep it that way.

Also Dave did you buy a modem or a router? I guess being in the sticks near Lismore maybe your still on dial-up
