Lightning 0.7 Released

Lightning, the cool email extension covered in TGGP episode 59 is now at version 0.7. Released on October 25th, Lightning now sports a new interface design. Instead of dragging the calendar pane up or down to display the calendar, the moveable pane has been replaced by two icons. One for MAIL and the other for CALENDAR. In my opinion, a much needed changed as it’s so much easier to access the calendar. Among the interface changes, here are a few other things to check out in this latest version:

  • Events/Tasks can be created in different timezones
  • Attendees can be added from a local or corporate LDAP directory.
  • Free-Busy information is available for users of the Sun Java Calendar Server.
  • Integrated display of recurrence patterns, reminders and attendees
  • Custom recurrences and reminders
  • Clear separation between tasks and events

Your installation of Lightning for Thunderbird should of automatically updated by now. If not, please read the 0.7 Release Notes as they provide more information in regards to this release as well as a download link with installation instructions.

Thanks for covering this Jeff, you beat me to it. My power went out last night for about 12 hours and I only started Thunderbird up today and got the update. It is definitely an improvement and seems to be less intrusive but more easilly accessible. I am still having trouble getting it to do tasks properly. That might have something to do with the fact that I have the Provider for Google Calendar in there as well. Anyone else having the same issue?

Thanks Jeff, top work mate. We have been on the blink major this last 2 weeks, but we are on for this week and we will let you guys know what gives.

Jeff, thanks for keeping the light on.
