The Global Geek Podcast #66 :: Back in the Day…

This is the GGP for this week, make it last we are taking a week off next week as Dave is AWOL.

This week in Tech Microsoft had a huge week, more announcements than you can poke a blunt stick at, but we also cover Facebook’s stealth project and it has been 50 years since we threw stuff up. Tim is older than he sounds.

Applications this week presented us with a glut after last weeks farce. We have an app to keep you up to date, Adobe’s addition to the player market, a free CD burning alternative AND stay listening for the quick-shot app list that we just had to make some time for.

Sites and Services this week covers a site for the looser in all of us, a new type of headline aggrigator and a Chess site that Dave thought was cool and was wasted on Tim who thinks Chess is for old coots.

Including this week the GGP Mac Lab Rat, Keith Murray, your feedback and the featured Firefox extensions will make it another great show, we hope that you enjoy.

  1. Mac Lab Rat Says:

Loved that “End of ze world” flash video… “WTF Mate?” has been a catch phrase in my office for the last few months… ;)

  2. Mac Lab Rat Says:

I should probably listen to the whole episode, and then comment all in one go, but I had to put this one in right away.

The Microsoft Reference License applies only to the .NET Framework source code. What it means is if you build an application in C# or some other .NET language, you can still release it open source (on SourceForge etc.) you just can’t release the SOURCE CODE for the .NET Framework. The .NET DLL files can still be released (and updated) with the application.

I did a short writeup on my blog, and linked to Scott Guthrie’s full announcement on his blog.

If there’s anything else… I’ll wait until I finish listening to the episode. ;)

  3. Herne Says:

Again, as I said in the “Open letter to Amazon” post, those silly American’s can’t spell worth a damn. “Loosr” is perhaps an ironic name, perhaps the people who opened it should be the head “loser” for spelling it wrong…again! Or perhaps they’re wanting to be more loose and less tight? Hard to say.

I also wanted to mention that they started playing the “Where the bloody hell are you?” Aussie vacation commercials again here in Canada. I always found them amusing myself, but apparently someone took offense because the Australian Tourist Board had pulled them a while back.

  4. cap Says:

Is “aggrigate” the Web 2.0 spelling for “aggregate”?

  5. Global Geek Says:

Probably - spelling was never my strong point and for some reason most spell checkers don’t recognize it!

  6. Knightwise Says:

I could make the “native speaker” comment ;p

  7. Hugh Says:

Another great podcast, and as a highly qualified looser I liked Loosr.com and submitted a story from my past entitled “My first date”
feel free to vote on my looser-ness
It’s the latest on the site and all true

  8. Peter Bryant Says:

@ Hugh I also loved losser and I read your story and voted on it.
But my favorite story is the one about the girl who had used an electric toothbrush to masturbate.

  9. hugh Says:

yeah, the toothbrush is a classic, I recon the best one is the one the lads mentioned on the podcast “disgusting morning”

  10. Knightwise Says:

AHA ! thats why my toothbrush tasted funny this morning.

  11. GGP Bot Says:

Dr Evil was out last night. I think he was bored and Dave and Tim had gone to bed so he skype bombed me at 2am. Luckily I was still awake..just.

    Evil I say….

  12. George Says:

Good show guys, thanks for the heads up on itunes. No longer stuck in hotels without updated podcasts!
