Any Guesses for What Apple Have Planned for the 5th?

Apple sent out some invitations to selected media today (no we are not on their list). The invitations are to a “Special Event” dated for the 5th of September 2007, to introduce a swag of new digital media “offerings” according to AppleInsider.

The invites are digital and this is all the info I have and since we did not get one I can’t confirm it. But the speculation is already flying round the web at an increasing rate of knots. Every thing from the Beetles on iTunes to new iPods. Of the round up that I have seen Apple 2.0 has what I think is one of the better reviews of the speculation.

What do we think? Me; I think that I am not going to even try to guess! I am starting to think that second guessing Apple is a waste of time as they are pretty good at keeping the cat in the bag and no one is ever right either. But I will say that the predictions are all possible and exciting.

I would like to see Leopard finally released. We have had the new iMac and I thought that would have come with them. New iPod would be cool and again that would fit with the iPhone being out and about. The Beetles added to iTunes? Now that is a real gamble, too many variables. Although there are references to the Beetles in the invite and a running theme and seems to be what the buzz is all about.

But the wording is “digital media offerings”; now there is a phrase that can be interpreted many, many ways and I am sure it was chosen for that reason. It can be hardware or software or music. You guess is as good as mine. Perhaps it is pure coincidence that Ringo Starr’s entire post Beetles career work was made a available on iTunes the other day.
So what do we think here at the GGP, let us know in the comments. We will no doubt hear in due course what “The Beat Goes On” means.

UPDATE: According to Silicon Valley Insider the Beetles are not coming to iTunes. They have spoken to what they are calling a “very reliable source”. Their source does say that Jobsy is probably going to talk about a new iPod, touch screen. Think iPhone minus the phone. In addition to some deal about being able to use your purchased music as a ringtone, as long as it is on an iPhone… meh I want the new iPod thanks Steve.
