The Global Geek Podcast #058 :: Interview with Richard Giles CEO of Scouta

So this week has been a bitch. Tim came down crook with the virus from hell, or something. The show was delayed and finding someone was hard to say the least. BUT very fortunately I have nice friends.

One of those friends is Richard Giles. Rich is the CEO of scouta.com and generally a nice guy. So Rich gladly accepted my invitation to come on the show and have a chat about scouta. A bit of a departure from the usual format, hopefully we will be condition green for next week.

Stay listening as we have your feedback and the GGP Mac Lab Rat dropped in for the latest Mac news. Oh, and we have a fix on where our jet is…

  1. Dr Evil Says:

I am not an imposter .. My evil plan will surely include you Mr Gray.. Then you will see how .. “real” I am .. :) ‘hahahahahah’ (evil laugh)

  2. Dave Gray Says:

@ least you used the same email address this time…

  3. Tony Says:

I have been using the Scouta Agent for several weeks now and I admit at first it was only recommending stuff I was already subscribed to. In the last week or so though it has been delivering some interesting stuff from Arrington’s podcast Talkcrunch, Calacanis’s podcast and several other tech related podcasts including video’s such as Endgadget talking to Woz while waiting for iPhone launch.

As I listen to more non-tech shows, which I am way behind on, hopefully it will recognise a lot more stuff but for now it seems to be learning well even if it does take a while.

I enjoy listening to Rich and have done so since early days where I won an iPod cover, i was probably only person who entered, and I am still using my blue Foofpod available at Foofpod.com

  4. Richard Giles Says:

Tony: Great that Scouta is starting to work for you. We’re adding more smarts over time as well, so it should only get better from here.

It’s also great your still using the foofpod :) . I still use mine.

    Rich

  5. Global Geek Says:

@Tony yeah I miss Rich doing his own show. So easy to listen to and talked to some great people as well. I must admit though I really liked the show he did on his own.

  6. hugh Says:

    Another enjoyable show, well done.
I’ve signed up for scouta, looks groovy
I was giddy as a school girl when I heard my name mentioned
What I omitted to tell you is apart from my family I’ve only got one mate and his in Canberra on dial up
    Every little bit helps eh?

  7. hugh Says:

    ps
really missed the dog hacking in the background, I was driving when I heard that and nearly crashed I was laughing that much

  8. George Says:

    Hi Dave

I thought to myself how much is this going to interest me when i hit play this morning.

Im such a pessimist, it was really interesting hearing Rich talk about scouta.

    Good job guys.

  9. wade Says:

I was the same as George once Rich got going I had to listen to the entire podcast in one go.

    Keep up the good work.

  10. Global Geek Says:

Thanks guys. Lucky we got anything out this week. Rich was a legend for jumping in at very short notice. I could have made it better – but I had about 20 minutes to prep it :P

I have passed on to Rich the feedback and he is appreciative.

  11. knightwise Says:

The correct format of the old floppy disks is 5.25 inch, they where single sided single density back then. (you could hack them by cutting a little square away so you could flip the floppy around) The Drives where called 1541 drives and sported 2 dinn connectors to daisy-chain them to the C64 .. I still have mine and it still works :)

  12. Richard Giles Says:

Thanks Huge, George and Wade! Great that you liked the show!

Knightwise, yeah that’s the one. I remember you could buy a punch that was purpose built to make the extra whole :) . Those of us that were strapped for cash had to measure it out and cut it. Eventually I got good enough I could do it by eye :) .

  13. Dave Gray Says:

@knightwise: did I not say 5 and a quarter inch on the show??? .25 would be a quarter :)

Yeah we used to hack the “floppy” as you say – we used to use a hole punch! lol

  14. knightwise Says:

You said Five and a Half ! :) (otherwise i would not be naggin)

  15. Dave Gray Says:

ok my brain must have froze up then – that’s what I meant to say… doh

  16. George Says:

Cmon guys, for knightwise its about size, for the rest of us, size does not matter

    :)

  17. knightwise Says:

    OUch ! That Stung !

  18. George Says:

    lol

    only a little?

  19. Jeffro2pt0 Says:

LMAO Good one George. Going to listen to this show tonight, looking forward to it.

  20. Knightwise Says:

    Vengeance will be sweet :)
