The Bloggers Response to Web 2.0 Overload
For those that have listened to this weeks show you would know that we talked a bit about the Web 2.0 overload problem. Basically put there are services, blogs, rss feeds and general information overload going on out there. Some bloggers are starting to say that they just want out. Then there are those that are changing what they do in response to it.
This week Steve Rubel of Micro Persuasion, who we mentioned in the show as one such blogger; wrote a post about what he was doing about how he felt. It makes for an interesting response to the problem of overload. He is opting for the less is more strategy. Steve is going to concentrate on doing longer posts more often while utilizing micro blogging platforms like twitter.
I have also noticed that Cam Reilly recently started doing daily “Cam’s World” posts. He updates these through the day to paint a big picture, see his latest here. While this is not micro blogging, think twitter; it is what I would call “mini” blogging. I actually quite enjoy reading Cam’s mini blogs. Cam’s posts are interesting and easy to digest. Cam is also using twitter and getting into Facebook and Second Life as alternative platforms for communication and blogging.
I said it on the show, that I believe that users are going to start ignoring each and every start-up and latest “thing”. Rather that they will use social networks and platforms in a way that will suit them and that they feel they can contribute to in a meaningful way. Perhaps this is how we will see this play out, I really don’t know. But what is interesting is seeing how bloggers and podcasters are adapting to the changes and the uniqueness that each is showing to the problem of Web 2.0 overload.

Spot on Dave. I think the less is more approach is the right way to go. Besides, if your a blogger, you have to abide by QUALITY vs QUANTITY and if your spending all of your time messing around on different sites and services, the time to blog quality posts is gone.
Internet marketers are really making use of all of these web 2.0 sites and services along with social networks. I think as an individual, you’ll only be doing yourself justice by contributing to the community in which you join. If you don’t your not only wasting the communities time, but your really wasting your own time as well.
