Oh Come on !!!! The swearing gives the show the extra edge. If I have to sit through one more 'family safe' tech podcast i'll slip into a f*** coma. Tim doesn't swear just to swear, he swears to make a point (and a Damn good one at that ) If one must sugarcoat every point and make it all politically correct , why not just wrap ourselves up in Bubblewrap so No-one will get hurt.
Damn ! :)

Great glad you like the show. Believe it or not but you are only the second person ever to complain about swearing on the show. But truth is that there is swearing on the show, I have been known to let fly myself at times. That said point taken.

BTW are you the same Mark Mulroney:

Jeff x 2

1. Yeah I agree to set up an iTunes account is a bitch... period. But if anyone has an account or doesn't mind creating one then feel free to write us a review - we would appreciate it.

2. I agree these are very cool times we are living in. The web is changing at a dramatic rate. Sometimes for good sometimes not. But generally the momentum is for the better.

Dunno about the desktop days... but one trend that I thik might hit a wall is the trend for everything to go "online" such as rss readers, desktops, docs etc... I think that there is a place for desktop clients. I think that individuals will choose what is right for them. I see red when I see sites say for example that desktop RSS readers are dead... Te only reason that "everyone" is using the web based clients is that it is new and "hip" not because they are better - plain and simple web based clients are inferior - but I will say that this is the case *now*, it might change. I do however feel that ppl (like me) will use the web based clients for portability. I think that we might see the trend towards "sync'ed" services - like FeedDemon, that allow the use of both and they are fully synced with each other - that is true power.

I think we are just starting to see a point where some services "float to the top" - it will be a while yet. But in time there will be a point at which we will see the "Google of social networking (maybe Facebook???) for example. But this space will have more than one player but there won't be 500 like now.

We are already seeing the start of consolidation services. Think sites that are offering "life-streaming" services and consolidated RSS feeds etc... istalker was one that we have looked at. These are springing up around the place - we are yet to see one that "rules them all". Certainly Facebook with it's applications is starting to do that - You can be on Facebook and have access to lots of other services and social networks. If you have this functionality then why bother actually going to those sites? Think twitter (in Facebook). I am not about to call it yet - But watch this space. I don't think that anyone will call it until we see the start-ups start to fall. That too is "starting" but there have been far less closures than start-ups. When this tips the other way - and the dust settles - Then we shall start to see the major players float to the top - then ask me the same question. Right now anyone can "win" in my opinion... Heck there might be another start-up tomorrow that might be "the one". And that is why we are watching ;)

Although I agree with Tim that Web 2.0 is turning into hundreds of sites and services that do the same thing, except a little bit differently, there is another half of me that believes the good ones will be weeded out from the bad ones. In other words, the strong will survive while the weak will perish. Sure, there are a ton of new startups popping up each day and I am sure that it sucks to read about a new service has been started, only to realize that a site already exists, executing the idea but you have to admit, the web is going through some pretty cool times. Before all of these web 2.0 services popped up on the web, didn't the software business on the desktop go through the same kind of flurry back around the predated web days?

One of the biggest shifts that have taken place is that, now there are software and web based services that provide 1-3 individuals with enough power to go up against a large corporation. We are living in times where everyones idea can be turned into a reality although not everyones idea will be successful.

I do think however, that as some point, when the web 2.0 climax is reached, users will decide amongst themselves which ones are the best to associate with. In my humble opinion, those who got on the bandwagon early in the game will probably be able to make it through till the end, aka YouTube, Flickr, Digg sites like that. I don't have 200 feeds in feed demon telling me about all of these new services but I can see where this web 2.0 overload attitude is coming from and I suppose it is justifiable.

It's entirely way to easy to get caught up in the mess that is known as web2.0 and I believe Dave hit the nail on the head when he mentioned that people will do best when they associate with and participate in social networks, sites and services that relate to them personally. If you can't participate in these services, don't bother signing up in the first place.

Now the real question I'd like both you and Tim to answer is, When do you think we will begin to see a massive move towards consolidation. I really think this will become the next big thing. Create one interface, one master profile which updates to all services your associated with. Sure, you can sort of do this with Jaiku, but it's not even a first generation product of what I am thinking of.

At any rate, let me know what you think. By the way, am I on crack?

I know you guys are asking for reviews or at least mentioning them on your show. I was getting ready to put in my review on Itunes and apparently I need an Apple account or some sort of AOL account. I'm not going to go through a bunch of crap just to write a review so I posted one on my blog http://www.jeffro2pt0.com/the-global-geek-podcast-returns/ If I or other people didn't have to go through so much shit to publish a review, their just might be a few more reviews about TGGP. Just a guess.

I know it's not your fault, its Itunes.

I was getting ready to put in my review on Itunes and apparently I need an Apple account or some sort of AOL account. I’m not going to go through a bunch of crap just to write a review so I posted one on my blog http://www.jeffro2pt0.com/the-global-geek-podcast-returns/ If I or other people didn’t have to go through so much shit to publish a review, their just might be a few more reviews about TGGP. Just a guess.

I know it’s not your fault, its Itunes.

I had an Idea about Farting in an email and sending it to George so he might be able to analyse it. But somehow my foul odour has exceeded Gmails attachement size. So unfortuantely I have no real feedback to send to the show. Btw If you ever use the rocky theme again, be sure to shout .. "AAAADRIAAAAAN" somewhere along the lines to give it that genuine rocky feel.

Hey Tony; the major thing about Airfoil is the fact that it allows you to stream audio from most if not all sources, without using iTunes.

I agree it stand to reason that it would include Mac support. Pretty cool all round. I would actually consider using an Airport given this functionality.

Haven't listened to the show as yet but I would have assumed that if Airfoil is using Airport Express that it would have Mac support. I don't know many Windows users who would use Airport Express exclusively though it is very handy.

I could be wrong of course.
