The macbook is the first notebook I've bought. The first workstation I bought was a NeXT. Before that I only had homemade garbage. I'm really happy with OS X but I'm a long time unix (Solaris and BSD) user. If you want to switch expect adapting to OS X to take a long time. I've seen it first hand. We switched some managers at work from thinkpads to powerbooks in 2004 and some of them had a terrible time.

btw - The latest TUAW podcast looks interesting.

I'm about to switch away from the Mac, to Windows. While I still love the Mac OS, I am increasingly frustrated at the drop in quality of basic OS functions and application quality requirements with every new release. Before OS9, every action could be completed with keyboard shortcuts, every release since then has dropped some, so many are gone now that some applications have few left at all. After operating at high speed during the day on Windows, it's getting ever more annoying to have to slow down and do everything the hard way. If you're a power user, consider your work speed before making the switch.
