The Global Geek Podcast #052 :: Go Go GGP Podcast
First up this week, yes the show is long. BUT the good thing is that you will enjoy the reason why.
This week on the geek school pupils find a novel way of skipping school while Google make moves on RSS and the mobile phone call that broke records.
The “Holy Grail” of mobile applications finally arrives. We cover an application that builds playlists based on your mood and how to create a virtual drive to any file using software only.
We have checked out some great sites and services this week. Including a few video and movie creation communities plus a site that adds some bling to images captured on your webcam. Not forgetting our great Firefox extension picks for this week.
You will also appreciate a visit from Knightwise.
Sorry for the average audio in places during this show. There were some gremlins in the Internets… and no Tim was his cage

[...] TubeStop was mentioned today on the the Global Geek Podcast, and the main drawback discussed was that it doesn’t disable the autoplay on YouTube videos embedded on other sites. I’ve added this feature and subsequently released TubeStop 1.1. [...]

Thanks for the mention (TubeStop); I’ve addressed the drawback of not stopping videos from autoplaying on non-YouTube sites and released version 1.1: http://www.efinke.com/2007/05/28/tubestop-extended-to-non-youtube-sites/

Christopher: NP at all we love the extension! As you might know geeks have attention deficit disorder and need to have more than one tab open at a time!
Thanks for listening and adding the feature, that just made it all the more worth it.
See listeners we can make a difference!

Glad to hear the talk about mobiles and the z8. Also happy to hear from KW. I just got back from my evening walk with about 8 minutes left on the show so I’ve yet to give the music track a good listen. Thanks guys.
btw – You two kinda put a dent in my aussie stereotype. I thought you where a bunch of bar fightin, thai chasing hooligans.
May 29th, 2007 at 2:20 pm
They gave up the Thai chasing because the girls ran much faster then they could keep up with their drunken waddle.
May 29th, 2007 at 2:33 pm
@kw, you kill me man. hahah
@Dave, I like the track so thanks a million.
ps – The nutty old man Chingo was my father-in-law yelling “Erica U-binga” which is something like “Eric has a fever”.
oh, regarding voip from mars. The z8 is s60 (symbian) so Nokia’s Gizmo Project beta may run on it. yea, s60 UI is pretty slow. Never tried the wacky SE UIQ java UI phones so I dont know if they’re any more snappy.
I saw the HTC Wing today and WM6 is confusing, for myself.

Hey guys, thanks for the mention! Really good to hear from KW again, even if it was only for him to deliver the bad news. The two of you (Dave and Tim) have been doing a great job in KW’s absence though, so it’s good to know the show will go on!

Another top show as always. you found some cool appz for this week might have to give Autostitch a go.
P.S. last week I got a domain name from godaddy and used the code tpn2 so thx the the 10% discount.
also Dave did you give that joost beta account a go if you did what do you think of it.

Hey Peter
And are you enjoying “I-cuddly-my-fluffy-teletubby-when-no-one-watches.com so far ?
May 30th, 2007 at 12:00 am
@Eric: we are – we just hide it well. Glad you liked the track, I thought it was bloody awful
@Brendan Again, you are a long time, loyal listener who is easy to support! Thanks for your listenership – it was an easy decision to include something about what you are up to. We will get back to you if anyone says they have a job for you
@Peter Thanks for supporting the show in that way Peter – great to hear the codes worked for you. Errr Joost…. errr my life is as crazy as a frog in chili soup atm… I am sorry but I have not tried it out yet… The worst thing is that I have Tim in my ear asking me to try it so I can send him an invite – so I beg you PLEASE send him one… he is like a dog with a bone…
Knightwise… great to see you are insulting our listeners as usual… although now you are insulting us as well! Don’t forget I still have the RAW audio file from our recorded segment… Amazing what you can do with a good audio editor… you can make ppl say anything! Stay tuned for next week PPL!!!! Haw Haw Haw
May 30th, 2007 at 12:30 am
@Tim if you tell me where to send it i will send you a just invite.
May 30th, 2007 at 8:43 am
Hey, thanks for the mention of diggReSS (and yeah, it is digg-ress, with the ress bit sounding like dress). Enjoy!
May 30th, 2007 at 2:28 pm
@Dave : Your infant threats mean nothing to me. Sure you can use the words against me, but it is the power of my voice and the charisma of my persona that will rise far above anything you cobble together (damn , i’m starting to sound like dr Evil !) Of course I insult both you and your listeners .. I mean .. someone has to .. right ? The sixties are over maaaaan !!!
May 30th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
ps : you might wanna change the banner art. I’m getting phone calls from hot Australian women who want to take us to court for “false advertising”. When they see they are pretty disappointed when he is only half as good looking as I am :p
May 30th, 2007 at 4:06 pm
…”When they see TIM they are pretty …”
May 30th, 2007 at 5:25 pm
@Chad thanks for the web site, I thought it was excellent.
@Knightwise you are evil…
@Tim I think we have created a monster
May 30th, 2007 at 9:53 pm
@dave : That is an accurate perception

[...] As we mentioned on the show a few weeks back George sent us a great email telling us a bit about himself. It was truly awesome to get get to know one of our listeners. What was also great about his email is that he sent us a panorama that he took. George used some software that we reviewed on the podcast called AutoStitch. [...]
