Download Video for your iPod Direct from Google Video
I did not know this and I am quite stoked about it. As regular listeners will know we are often giving tips and tricks about how to get a web based video onto your iPod. Sometimes it can just be a nightmare to get it offline and onto your hard drive. It would seem that Google have heard your call, although I am not sure how long ago they heard it because I have only just noticed it.
One of the hot finds for me this week was the fact that the whole movie of Pirates of Silicon Valley can be found on Google Video. I started watching it via the embedded player. What I wished was that I could wack it on the iPod and watch it in bed. I started to get the apps to do just that, we covered a few in the last show. Now I was following a few links and trackbacks and I found that Google Video has a little “hidden feature”. Well; as I said hidden to me because I remember last trying to download a video off of Google Video and being disgusted at the fact that you needed “their” player.
So find the video that you want to download and check out the download button on the right hand side, now the pull-down menu… Ta Da:
So I selected the download for iPod and down came the .mp4 video that is 67% complete as I write this. I have no idea about the quality of the video as yet, I’ll let you know. But it was an .avi to start with (nice).
This is an interesting development. How long before YouTube offer a similar service and we can stop wrestling with online video to get it on our portable devices? I would say not that long. As far as supported formats, I would like to see more than the iPod supported. And please don’t keep dishing up .flv or flash video to download!

Check out the Full Movie of “Pirates of Silicon Valley”, all about Woz, Bill and Steve etal. Maybe give some insight into the rivalry and competition between Apple and Microsoft.

I never said it was new - just new to me. I think I actually indicated that fact more than once.

Hey guys when i download the show i only get about the first 15 minutes then it cuts off. HELP!!!!! I can’t get my weekly dose of the geek!!! Cheers, Nathan.
