Twitter Fan Wiki – Twitter for all flavors…
Here at the Global Geek we have adopted the world of Twitter as being a pretty cool place to be, it seems that everyone is getting into it lately and even the harshest of skeptics (I’m looking at you KW…) have taken to it readily (well I say readily, I mean kicking and screaming…).
Now one of the coolest things about Twitter is that it has an open API that allows you to create applications for many different OS platforms. But one of the frustrations in finding a good Twitter client is that not all of them come with great features, so you have to try out a few before you’ll settle on one.
Then the hunt begins as you type ‘Twitter Client + [name of platform here]‘ into Google and you find out that no matter how you tackle it, there are a little over one million links to trawl through (most of them blog posts).
This is where the Twitter Fan Wiki comes to the rescue, by not only telling you what is going on in the world of Twitter developments, but also by giving you a HUGE list of currently avaliable applications for you to try on your various platforms.
Now as some of the current readers/listeners of the Podcast should know, Knightwise has been scouring the internet to find a decent client for his Palm Treo that will allow him to connect and update his Twitter account from where ever he happens to be.
Well the day has come KW here it is, an actual Palm Treo Twitter client that looks good, and by all reports works great. The application is called TreoTwit which comes from miTreo.com and is currently up to version 0.85.
So hopefully now Knightwise will be able to tell us what he is having for lunch, that he is stuck in crazy Belgian traffic or if he is wondering Will it Blend? any time of the day without the hassle of getting to a computer!
Tell us what platforms you use to Twitter on in the comments!

After I wrote this story, I’ve been testing some of the Twitter clients for Windows, I’ve settled on Tweetr, which is avaliable for PC and Mac (its Adobe Apollo based, so you’ll have to get that first!).

The whole world is bending over backwards to get me to twitter
Damn cool !

revolt! go Jaiku.
April 11th, 2007 at 1:10 pm
I agree Eric. BUT as with other sites and services – he is there first and has the majority of the users wins. Think YouTube. While Jaiku is a better service twitter has the name and at this point in time the users. Does that mean they win? Maybe, but the time available for competitors to get the upper hand is getting short.
Great article guys. I am getting there. Building system tols and software slowly. Damn pita I can tell ya. BUT I do have the feeds up and running… now I need the time to read them…

Just to let you guyz know : The Treotwitter thing Works !
April 11th, 2007 at 4:51 pm
oh. Forgot one thing. Leo (twit.tv) defected. So Jaiku will get a traffic from his followers. I joined to test the S60/Nokia beta. I like to post about the state of my battery. I’m more informative than most US media conglomerates.
ps – Shouldn’t knightwise be DJ’ing front242 or something? The 4 non blands was a little shocking.

I use Twitter via the Twitterbar. The twitterbar has made posting things to twitter really fast and simple. I don’t feel the need to twit via my cell phone as I don’t want to be charged 10 cents per text message. Quite honestly I don’t have 500 friends either, I have about
* 0 Direct Messages
* 0 Favorites
* 5 Friends
* 2 Followers
* 55 Updates
So I don’t have an interesting twitter life LOL Don’t know if you guys covered it yet but I’d like to see you guys review http://twittervision.com/ which puts a unique twist on visualizing people using the Twitter service.

By the way knitewise, any particular reason as to why you have direct messaging turned off?
April 11th, 2007 at 6:53 pm
@Jeffro : Hey Jeffro
Thanx 4 the heads up, i’ll check the settings. Oh and I dont Twit via SMS , i use the treo client to use my gprs connection. i’m not gonna pay per post either.
@Eric : Hey dude
That was like 12-13 years ago
It might have been a bit shocking but it was one crrrrazy party (and dont worry , i’ll NEVER do the Genesis dance again in public !

April 11th, 2007 at 7:40 pm
Ooops. Sorry about the wrong name, I am tired as hell
April 11th, 2007 at 7:41 pm
@Eric – I know that Leo LaPorte left the Twitter camp, but it was because of the confusion it would cause over the Twit name similarity.
He didn’t defect to Jaiku, he made a conscious decision about the naming.
Yeah I’m gonna try Jargong for my mobile Twittering. (and No, I don’t have no fancy schmancy PDA device, just a little Sony Ericsson V600i).
April 11th, 2007 at 7:44 pm
Knightwise, I know you said you enabled direct messaging but for whatever reason this is what shows up on my Action Window for your account.
* Actions
* leave knightwise
* remove knightwise
No direct message option.
April 11th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
Well I can’t get any of the current Mobile Java solutions to work correctly on my V600i.
Oh well, I guess I’ll have to wish for a Palm Treo for my Birthday…
April 11th, 2007 at 11:06 pm
@ Jeffro : Wierd, cause Tim just shot me a direct message ?
April 12th, 2007 at 6:22 am
Yeah the same thing goes for Time, I can’t send him direct messages either, however I can send a direct message to Dave. The only thing I can figure is that I’m not on your friends list so therefor it won’t allow me to direct message you lol.
Might be safer that way.

Jeffro, Try adding me again to your friends list.
April 12th, 2007 at 7:38 pm

I found a use for Jaiku. It can aggregate blogs. Why would I want to do that? I dont know. I do have my delicious, bluedot, flickr, my moblog and my rantblog all tied to Jaiku now. So it may prove to be a nice glue for a handful of sites. Anytime I post to any of them it’ll show up as a jaiku. Now if I can only figure out how to make the parents use firefox and subscribe to the feed.
I ROCK. ok maybe not. Looking fwd to next week’s show.

(quietly smiles to himself as his plan to bring Knightwise over to the dark side seems to be working)
