The Global Geek Podcast #045 :: Thunderbirds are Go!
This week on the show we are joined by Tim King again, have a few laughs and find out if Dr Evil survives.
Tech headlines this week feature .xxx domain rejection; again. China bans booty calls, don’t even think about sending a picture either! Also the proposed GPLv3 is released and causes some ripples in the corporate world.
We cover some great free applications this week, including an application that allows you to create a network where there is no Internet and something to organize your finances.
Not to mention the fact that I am now very confused about exactly which Thunderbird does what…

Nice show guys. Yea I listened already while watching the baseball. Great to have tim on there again, he is a vg guest host.
I agree that unless your in the USA AppleTV isn’t that great. i do have an old g4 Mac mini that I am very likely going to hook up to my HDTV when I get it and will try out rSync or maybe just use chicken of the VNC to transfer files to my mini.
Not sure how well it with with my old G4 but we will see.

Hey Tony thanks for the comment, you’re quick! Glad that you enjoyed the show and the fact that Tim was on. Tim is getting pretty involved with the show, hope you guys are enjoying the mash-up!
Yeah I thought Knightwise had a great hack for the Apple TV Box, I too am not that sure I would pay the cash just6 to say that I had a Apple TV box when I could hack something up to do the same thing.
Check out that CronniX app in this weeks show, Apple proggy that might help you out with scheduling things. Be sure to let us know how the G4 performs. I am sure that Knightwise would have some idea how it might go. KW?
I seem to remember him talking about getting a G4 for a similar purpose… Not sure. Meh, he is no doubt lurking and can let us know his thoughts.

Regarding the whole tunderbird thing :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderbirds_%28TV_series%29
The “drill one” actually does not have a number (its just called “the mole”)

is that why he was after a G4. HMm yea it sounds like a good idea. i think only issue, and I am not 100% sure of this but i think they have an integrated video chip which could prevent some HD content showing up in full res.
Still 720p isn’t bad either i guess.

Show Notes missing something? I remember something about a walking contest judged on GPS (in a promo ad), do I have the wrong show? What’s the podcast it’s from?
April 3rd, 2007 at 1:08 pm
That was a promo sent into us from a long term listener. He is the host of The Polar Bear Podcast. If you have a look in the Show Notes under Feedback… I think you’ll find that the show notes are not missing anything

great show. I never realised you could fit 3 whole people inside an mp3 - nice work.
happy easter y’all

You should see how we are crammed up in there. Dave’s toe has been in my ear for the whole duration of the show. That was how cramped it was !
April 5th, 2007 at 4:23 pm
Thanks Dave! My brain made no connection from Polar Bear Podcast to GPS walking challenge.

I also enjoyed the show and I feel that Tim is an excellent third host to the show. I also love the fact that you guys really are putting the GLOBAL in the Global Geek Podcast and I hope that one day you can have a guest host from the US added to your show.
By the way I loved that walking contest promo, those two guys were roughing each other up with words very humorously.

Concidering that Tim is actually from another PLANET we could call it the Galactic Geek Podcast.
April 6th, 2007 at 5:03 pm
btw : I’m getting a second hand Mini this afternoon. So i’ll put my “Apple Tv Alternative” to the test.
April 8th, 2007 at 4:53 pm
Damn
My mac mini deal fell through. Have to look for something else to test with .
