The Global Geek Podcast #044 :: Hammered
This week in Geek we have a chat about WGA, Vista and the government. But not forgetting that paint may now be your enemy and something to protect you from Cell Phone “rays”.
We take a look at Linux MCE that could give Microsoft MCE a run for it’s money. Getting things done can sometimes be difficult. We have found a rock that thinks which might solve your problems.
Sites and Services is a mixed bag; Second Life bookmarking, Video email from the web, Short URL’s with 2 lumps and much much more.
All that after Knightwise finds his brain! Here is everything you need to go where we have been… Show Notes!

WGA does not work if you know where to go you can get the tools to bypass it.

Thanks Dave. I’ve been a little horrified at the number of people who don’t know what the Future Fund is. Many people believe misinformation such as: it’s politicians’ Superannuation only, it’s for spending on Australia’s Future, it’s a big piggy bank.

@ peter. Yep , plenty of tools to change your serial into a volume licence key serial. The only thing is : You need to have a valid volume licence key.

regarding vista. I believe MS was counting on Solid Stated Drives being ready by now. I installed it on my SO’s dell 9100 DTR and yea it was terrible. I just upgraded to a seagate 7200 RPM HDD and it’s a lot better. oh, you probably want 3GB of ram to do anything. Why not just get a mac or install freebsd?
and nokia did start with boots or so i hear.
I love my N80. I dont work for them.
btw - CTIA is this week.

but still ! 3 gig of ram and a solid state harddrive for the OS !! What if you want to do something serious with your pc , like photoshop or something. What kind of razorfast machine do you need then ? and what will the $$$$ of that baby be.
March 28th, 2007 at 7:23 pm
People say a Macpro is too expensive. For price of that will equal what you will need for a PC to run the same items at the same price without the extra free software.
Gdisk has been available for years at least on a Mac which allows you to import stuff into your Gmail account. Not sure if it’s avail on windows though.
Hmmm what else??? Nothing atm.
March 28th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
I agree the specs that it takes to run Vista effectively are steep. Plus Tony you have a point, and indeed that is what some people are doing - making the swap from PC to Mac. But there are other reasons as well. I just think that Vista poses the perfect opportunity or excuse to think about it.
March 28th, 2007 at 11:07 pm
no matter if its a pc or a mac , 2000 to 2500 euro’s for a machine is still a hell of a lot of money.
March 29th, 2007 at 12:09 am
OK some weirdness going on with the blog, it would not let me comment if I was logged in.
@Tony - are you planning to update your blog at all?
March 29th, 2007 at 8:01 am
Hmmm, I’ve looked (again) at bluedot and i’m not convinced but I’lll give it another chance, whilst I continue with del’

Hmm yea I will prob someday. I was updating a lot before I started playing World of Warcraft. Basically I was just going through RSS feeds and posting my comments or thoghts on stuff that interested me, nothing exciting.

WOW eats away your life !
March 30th, 2007 at 12:21 am
Awwwww come on Rich. Or do I have to give you the lecture as well? Maintain an open mind and judge it for what it is not for what you think it might be… impartiality so to speak… sound familiar?
You have nothing to loose! Don’t forget to add us as friends and the others that you know from the show.
@Tony -thanks just curious.
March 30th, 2007 at 5:02 am
@travis - I love frites and mayonnaise, where I live the chip shops sell “chips and gravy” or “chips and curry sauce” !!! seriously.
will give B Dot a go - it better load quicker than Twttr!
thinking of some guests…
rich
March 30th, 2007 at 8:56 am
Rich would make a good guest and as you mentioned the Cam-monster.
How about Ugly Dave Gray, I am sure he can crack some really old bad jokes
Just kidding. If your not Aussie you prob won’t get that reference.
Maybe Dr.Evil
March 30th, 2007 at 3:53 pm
@Rich - cool I think that you’ll like it, seriously. But make sure you get the extension! Yes it is faster than twiter! Man that is getting worse and worse…
@Tony - Dr Evil doesn’t speak to us at all… but he might give us an interview or something… Then again we are scared of him as he is quite, quite mad…
You guys want Cam on the show then? The other suggestion was Rich (which I am assuming as in Giles? Co-Founder of Scouta???)
Who else come on guys I thought you would really be able to come up with some gems… Aussie or what ever… creative remember!
The only reason that we ask is that we could assume to know what you are into or want to hear. But what better way to target exactly what you want than to ask and deliver.
March 30th, 2007 at 7:21 pm
How about some geeks then like Pirillo, Scoble.
I dunno my mind is blank
March 30th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
I would like to have Scoble on, as long as he doesn’t shout all the time. (he has a tendancy to do so)
