The Global Geek Podcast #040 :: Dave Goes Postal
We made it to 40! Thank you too all our listeners that have stayed with us and listened to us evolve. We hope that you’ll continue to enjoy the show because it is only going to get better!
This week we have some Skype news, yet another beta and minus something that Dave wants… SETI@home makes a find and unintentionally hacking WiFi, Knightwise then goes on to let everyone know where and how to log in round his place!
This show includes all the usual great stuff including free applications, one of which we are still scratching our heads over. Trillian gives us a mobile IM client and putting some dog’s ears on your web pages. What about being able to convert any widget to a Vista gadget? We have a site for you that does that as well as turning your photos into a comic book.
Here are this weeks show Notes!

Haven’t listened to the show yet but checking the links and Slife looks like another social networking site which dosen’t look too bad. Of course my Slife page would look boring….logged into Wow, logged out of Wow.
Was looking at the how it works page and it had a screenshot of friends fav websites and ad.doubleclick.net was in the middle. That seems very odd or people just click on anything nowadays
Look forward to listening to show on way home.

Ok listened to the show now and maybe it is like spyware/malware but I don’t think that was it’s original intent. Still with the amount of friends I don’t have using Macs it’s kinda pointless to sign up for it anyway.

OK I’ll give you that. No I don’t think that was the intention. BUT, does it not do everything that spyware does do? The only difference is that it does it with your knowledge. If you voluntarily use it does that make it spyware? Probably not. But then that’s only what you know about. I guess what concerns us is the stuff you don’t.
There is a fine line here. I stand by what I said in the show, that there are far better ways to gather information about what people are interested in without using software that logs EVERYTHING.
So no it probably isn’t spyware, not something I would want to have on my system though

[...] This week I had a bit of fun embelishing the original image using a service that we talked about in Show Number 40 called comeeko. It really is very good and easy to use. If you were a bit more creative and had great fun photo’s to work with you really could create some awesome comic strips. There are heaps of options and features that make them look great. I even matched the colour from right here on the blog for the border. Clever eh? But while you are here, humour us and yourselves and drop a caption in the comments, what is this guy thinking? Don’t worry this is just for fun here on the blog. We figure this is a visual thing so we think this is the best place for it. [...]
