The Global Geek Podcast #038 :: Clippy Does Japan!

This week we look at what might be behind Steve Job’s statements about DRM, why you may not be able to cross the street and listen to your iPod in New York.

Also spam filtering gets divine intervention. We find the “anti-bork” remedy for the iTunes – Vista incompatibility issue, how to make yourself truly invisible on the Internet and an application that might be the holy grail of two way syncing for iCal and Google Calendar.

Sites and services means visiting useful and interesting pages that we have found including an online text editor to type in peace with no distractions and the “phone book” of Web2.0. Sadly Clippy does indeed turn Japanese… Oh and there is a Dave special at the end, so keep listening!

  1. The Problem with Transcontinental Podcasting « Rooster’s Rail Says:

[...] I would remind all podcasters out there of one of the golden rules of editing, never edit a .mp3, always convert it to a .wav. I hope this hack helps anyone else faced with the same problem of transcontinental podcasting and file transfer. Check out this weeks show and compare the difference. [...]

  2. Michael Specht Says:

A couple of things. First up I was going to make a smart arse comment to reply to Knightwise who said not too, but I forgot what the topics was on :-)

Second, on the Web 2.0 listeners might also like to watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsa5ZTRJQ5w which is a intro to Web 2.0 if they are a little unsure about what it all is.

  3. knightwise Says:

Mike, have you thought about upgrading your short term memory with this ? http://www.cclplc.co.uk/images/news_views/pen_paper_right_col.jpg

    ?

    :)

  4. Tony Says:

Safari allows you to email webpages already as a default, but I am unsure if it will mail secure pages.

    Nice show

  5. Dave Gray Says:

Knightwise stop insulting our listeners… First the jet thing now this…

Michael, stop inciting the Paladin to violence. Thanks for the video link!

Tony thanks for listening and we are glad you enjoyed the show.

  6. Bart Baus Says:

    Good old Geeks

Im the unlucky owner of a brand new laptop with vista premium pre-installed, thanks for the tip about I-tunes breaking under vista.

Its slower then my grandmum starting up since it takes forever to load programs and thats on 2 gig of ram.

but there is also good news about it since i got it 24 hours ago it only crashed 3 times on me. So im really impressed.

good thing its the company PC and i only need to use the bloody thing when im on the road wich isn’t all that much.

Love the show but knightwise should work on his own podcast a bit more, its long overdue.

keep up the good work loved the admin password crack.
my wife works for the goverment and oh boy do those guys fuck up a PC. :-)

PS knightwise, next time ur in Hasselt, drinks are on me

    greets

    Kenwood

  7. Global Geek Says:

Glad to hear that you are the owner of a brand new laptop, sorry to hear it is loaded with Vista.

BTW, I think I can safely speak for Knightwise here, he decided to update The Knightcast less frequently. He is enjoying doing the geek and wants to devote more time to it. However, you might see a podcast from time to time. Knightwise I am sure will add to this.

Hey KW where are those roof pics you said you would post?

Thanks for listening to the show!

  8. Michael Specht Says:

Now Knightwise I would but I listen to you natter on with Dave while in peak hour traffic and don’t particularly want to crash into the cars in front. TPN has already been involved (?) in on car accident in New York, http://gdayworld.thepodcastnetwork.com/2006/04/21/gday-world-111/. Yeah and listen to dave stop insulting your listeners, we might get violent.

BTW you should be careful driving a watching videos at the same time.

  9. knightwise Says:

Bart : I’ll take you up on that invitation. I know the Knightcast is long overdue, but there is are only so many hours in the day (and getting Dave-my-aussie-stalker off my back eats up quite a few of those) (Kidding). I hope you enjoy the GGP ! ( Its a miracle you even got here using Vista :) )

Michael : Don’t insult me with your futile threats of revolt and violence. Beware the power of the Paladin whose tongue is sharper then his sword. ;) I of course hope you stay safe in traffic , but your favorite means of transportation seldom put you in harms way …

ps : If you think watching tv while driving is dangerous, try building a scale model of the HMS ENTERPRISE behind the wheel :)

  10. knightwise Says:

Dave : My roof pics are coming , but the darn thing has crawled up on top of my house and the sun always hides away when I get home to take some pictures.

  11. Michael Specht Says:

Knightwise yes you are correct that I am chauffeured around but you must of place the wrong link in your comment, here are the correct ones
    http://www.westwindlimo.com/images/navinterior.jpg
    http://www.westwindlimo.com/images/chauffeur.jpg

As for revolt, nah that’s too hard and would get in the way of BBQs, beer and watching some sport :-)

  12. bart baus Says:

i didn’t get here using vista lol i used my home PC… im crazy, not stupid knightwise.

Good luck with the roof and i’m trying to get rid of your stalker but my aussie man went into the wrong house and robbed his neighbours, it was to be expected really, never trust and aussie to do a belgian’s work.

Crashes are up to 7 now and vista doesn’t like both my UsB sticks, nor does it seem to bother with my SD card. why doesn’t mac OS X run on acer pc’s :-( (

oh and btw who is that idiot that puts commecials about wrestling inbetween your podcast.

I don’ t mind advertising but please please please make it about something that is interesing at least… i don’ t know, Porn, girls, porn, IT, porn, clippy… and maybe even Porn

you get the drift… but the only time i have use for combat sports is when im wrestling with vista.

  13. Global Geek Says:

@ bart baus: Where the heck are you getting the podcast. So far we have only run ads for shows on TPN! Can’t remember putting any in about wrestling… Karate yes but no wrestling.

The only way that could happen is if some other site is scraping our content and adding it into the audio file. If that is the case I need to know about it, they are violating copyright.

Or you are joking. In which case, I have no idea what ad you are talking about :)

  14. Knightwise Says:

Dave , before you have a paranoia-attack (you have obviously forgotten to take your meds again) I think that for Bart Karate and Wrestling are all the same. Naked sweaty men engaged in Combat !

  15. Global Geek Says:

Ok well that would be me that put that in. OK I get it you don’t want the Karate promo in the podcast… np

Trust you to get it KW … “sweaty men indeed”

  16. bart baus Says:

i wouldn’t mind ladies mud wrestling however. anyway dave take it easy i get the podcast as its supposed to be. i would however like to appologize for the misunderstanding, im only belgian u know… and we all know how wierd they can be.

  17. Knightwise Says:

PS : Michael… And do you and Zsa Zsa Gabor have a lot of fun in that limo ?

  18. Michael Specht Says:

Mate I would have more style than that ;-)
