Top 100 Digg Users List is Back

In this weeks show (#037) we mentioned that Digg had removed the top Diggers list. It took but days for Christopher Finke to create the list on an independent site.

The list of Digg’s Top 100 Diggers is updated twice a day. The reason for the creation:

“This list is kept available for no other reason than to recognize the time spent and effort contributed by the individuals listed below.”

Compiled using the data which is publicly available the list flies in the face of what Digg was trying to achieve. For that reason the page may well be taken down at the request of Digg. Chris states that if asked to do so he will. It was assumed that Chris was using the information contained in a users profile. That information has now been removed. However, Chris has countered that with:

“…my list has been updated since then, so we can safely assume that I wasn’t using that information (which I’ve said from the beginning).”

- Now I have a Blog Too

I agree with Arrington’s assessment that this page will generate more attention for the fact that it was something that users have been told they can not have access to. For Digg “gamers” on the other hand it is a one-stop-shop for finding a user that might have their price. Mission failed as far as Kevin Rose is concerned.

Ironically the list was created by an employee of Netscape. Knightwise I think you just scored another point. Can’t wait for round 2…

if the list is back, they can once again game DIGG. Thats bad for DIGG , but good for Netscape (who made that sad DIGG CLONE a few months ago). I think I hear Kevin Typing up his resume in the background.
