The Global Geek Podcast #036 :: Clippy Does Porn
Back to our usual format this week after our “How We Do It” Episode last week, we hope you enjoyed that and we are planning on some more special events this year.
This week was a fun show to record and we trust that you enjoy it. This weeks technology news sees Skype users threatened with fines and gaol terms, Microsoft causing 2.6 million users to spit the dummy and how a guy loses weight playing computer games.
We have some great free applications this week such as power toys for photo data editing and syncing files. Some fun software to “grow” a virtual world using the Internet as fertilizer.
Sites and services looks at some powerful search engines to find what you are looking for quickly. A great one ties in with one of our featured Firefox Extensions for this week.

Shouldn’t “pornado” go into Urban Dictionary rather than Wikipedia?
great show guys.

I do my best to post legitimate spiffy technology to delicious and you pick on the one post I was so embarrassed about I took it down. HAHAHAH! Love the show. You guys rock. I think my dad will be a listener soon. btw - I never heard of clippy until your show. Keep up the good work.

One could say they beat me to the punch. Or you could say I was not making the word up, but it IS in the urban dictionary :
…”used to describe a seemingly endless stream of pop-up windows appearing on ones computer screen while looking at pornographic websites.
Use : “I almost got busted by my boss at work for looking at porn. I had to turn off my computer off because I got swept off in a fucking pornado!”

Shit that is funny Knightwise.
Thanks for listening Cam. Hope you liked the Wikipedia tools.

@Eric Now that is even funnier… Yeah we loved it. We even named the episode after it! Sorry about that. The RSS feed for del.icio.us is like email - once tagged you can’t “un-tag” it. Sure you can delete the tag and link in your del.icio.us but the feed has long indexed the tag and I have it… Haw haw haw
Thanks for your support and encouragement. We really appreciate you putting the effort in with the tags and listening to the show. Thank you.

@Eric, I completely understand you where very embarrassed about the clippy porn thing. I know that in reality you where actually on that site to listen to the sound clips where he says he’s into kinky clowns.

Knightwise love the use of PacketGarden by network admins!

thanx Mike, It was just a wacky idea. Having worked in the educational system as a sys-admin it was always pretty hard to explain these abstract things to my “board of principals”. I sure wish I had packed garden back then.
Ps : If you could turn the peer-to-peer plant into pott, I would be a planetary dealer right now. The thing is all over the place

[...] In the last episode we talked about Apple patching the Quicktime vulnerability. We also did not know if the patch would have to be manually downloaded and installed by users or if Apple would push it in updates. I got the answer to that question tonight by accident. [...]
