The Global Geek Podcast #034 :: Looks are Everything
Welcome to The Global Geek Podcast for this week. It has been a full week of news so we have a great show. But we have tried to cover the stuff that got forgotten in favour of Apple (but we do have something to say about Apple). So enjoy!
This week we cover some items from the Consumer Electronics Show, Adult Films, Firefox 3 and one good reason not to live in Qatar.
Some cool tools that enable you to sync online video with your iPod, hacking Skype, software for your TREO and create killer screenshots.
Our whistle stop tour of the web this weeks brings you a great new blogging platform, a service that makes you money by hosting video and we find out what blends.

Like the show guys a couple of comments. First up it would be great to get the links for your tech news so we could read more, or at least the site you find the news on.

Point taken. I will include some links to the worthy stories or ones that we think you guys would appreciate if you like. Doing all of them would add a fair amount of time to writing the notes. Make sure you keep an eye out next week we have a special edition podcast and we will talk all about stuff like this!
BUT I see what you are saying and I am happy to. Let me know if there is anything from this week that you specifically want to have a look at. Drop me an email if you like – and that applies all the time

A few things. Got the album art..woohoo.
I am also loving the discussion on Cam’s blog. I think I am the only one agreeing with him but I agree it is being well controlled and not getting out of hand and a lot of other sites could do worse than to see how a civilised discussion can take place about religion. Hmm not very geeky..back on topic.
As I have only listened to the last few shows I am not sure what downloads you have covered but as we have a few mac fans out here I thought I would throw out Tubesock out there as a way to download Youtube videos. It has probably already been covered by you guys but I am not gonna go back every show and check
It allows you to convert to H.264 formats for your iMac or Apple laptop and also iPod, PSP, just the audio and you can also save as a .flv also. There is also an add-on called TubesockLoader which allows you to paste in multiple URL’s and then import to Tubesock and it will then download, save and encode all the URL’s in one hit. A lot better than going 1 video at a time. Does take a while obviously unless you have a fast processor to do the encoding.
I was sure was something I wanted to mention while listening to the show and I am sure it will come to me. Great show as always.

I remembered what the other thing was
Screen captures. There is a very cool little Apple widget that allows you to take screen captures. It can save in about 8 different file formats, save to different locations and afterwards you can use any editing program you like to make changes. A nice lil app for that is Imagewell which also includes tools to upload the file to a website once your finished.
I love Macs, everything is so simple and intuitive.

Hey Tony! Thanks for letting us know about the album art. I am very pleased
Some great tips there for the Apple lovers. Thanks for contributing to the community!
