Face Off for Art
If you have not heard of a face off by now then get out from under that rock and listen up. No, not the movie. A “face off” is where two rivals are pitted against one another and then visitors to the site are asked to vote which one is better. For those like Knightwise this usually entails two naked or near naked chicks. For the rest of us it might be cute kittens.Weird I know, but true. Well the face off just got, well a tad serious, with art of all things.
ArtFaceOff is a site that lets registered users judge what piece of art is the “best”. They say:
“A grassroots project bringing together democracy to the world of art”
I say, that I am not sure the two can meet. But heck that is what they are trying to do. I like the idea of the “public” judging what makes “good” art, as we know the critics need their heads read. Although “best” is in the eye of the beholder.
This site is serious, they have a rules page that is longer than a page view (I needed to scroll). There is a leader board with a knock-out like layout leading to an ultimate winner. Not sure that I like the site design but then it is original and unique. Simple yes and we like simple, and it should be. There are different categories as well:
- Photography
- 3 Dimensional
- Painting
- Digital
- Drawing
- Printmaking
- Mixed Media/ Interdisciplinary
That should cover most tastes. Be interesting to watch and the art-lovers are probably rolling over in their graves! Woot!
