Technorati Now Supports Open ID
A while back we interviewed Dick Hardt of Sxip Identity. If you heard the interview you would know something about Open ID and identity management in the Web 2.0 era.
So I thought it was worth mentioning that Technorati have announced that they now support Open ID for claiming blogs. This is a good thing. This is cutting edge identity management and there are but a few services offering support, but the list is growing. The significance of Technorati supporting it is that they are a major player in the blogging arena. Other sites and services gain confidence in the technology and it becomes more widespread.
Open ID aims to make our lives that much easier. Rather than have to supply our details to each and every site that we want to deal with, Open ID checks your identity with an identity provider or “ibroker”. That is a third party says: yes, that is who they say they are and you are in. Personally, this is very new and I do not fully grasp the concepts yet so if that did not make sense check out the Wikipedia entry on Open ID and prepare to be more confused.
