Is There More to Web 2.0?

I read an interesting blog post today regarding the flood of Web 2.0 web sites and start-ups that are based around social networks. So it leaves those of us wondering if there will ever be more to the Web 2.0 phenomenon? The room to move for new stat-ups with this focus is getting smaller and in many respects people have made their choice.

This from TechAddress:

"…there seems to be a lack of the application of the newer technologies to real world business problems, where that implementation would represent a quantum leap in user interface, usability and ultimately user experience and functionality."

I agree. Where are the apps that make a real difference to the way in which we work? Where are the innovative new concepts that help us day to day? I can only think of a few examples of this type of thing that has been done well, Writely is one of them, but there are few examples.

I invite you to read the post, it is well worth it and it has been coming. I have been thinking the same thing for a while now. Come on lets see the real innovation start to come out; I too am sick of social networking.

I added in the comments that perhaps there is a trend occurring that companies are feeling a pressure that they have to include some sort of social networking in order to "fit in". If this is the case then hear us of great code monkeys – We want more and no I don’t need to be able to add friends!
