Google Adds Advisories to Search

Well it is nice to see that search companies are doing something to fight malware.

Google now redirects you to a warning page should you click on a link that is the source of malware. Advising that “WARNING - The site you are about to visit may harm your computer!“. You can decide to go ahead with the link, mad if you do though.

This seems to be only there for people that have not discovered the McAfee SafeSite Firefox Extension. This extension is available for IE as well. This extension lets you know that a site is bad before you click on it. For various reasons a site may not be great to visit, such as malware, viruses, browser exploits, spam or scam. Site Advisor lets you know with an icon next to each search result, and it lets you know if a site is 100% safe as well. Very, very useful extension. Definitely my most recommended browser extension.

That said, some redundancy on the part of Google is most welcome. These features from Google and the extension are no substitute for common sense, so be aware and think before you click.
