Desk Top Blog Editors Review

I use Qumana to dump stuff in the Global Geek Podcast Blog. This is opposed to using the online web editing interface that you see with most blogs.

What I was unaware of was the variety of editors out there. Lifehacker gives a brief round up of the variety there is and a short summary about them. The comments on the post also point to others.

If you were considering using a stand-alone blog editor/manager then this would be a great place to start in your hunt for one. The story was based on a blog editor poll conducted on the blog. Surprisingly one standout was Performancing Extension for Firefox which I did not even know existed and I might try. It runs inside Firefox as you would expect an extension to do. Not so great if the www is not your primary source of blogging material (which is my case), meaning that to use it you have to open Firefox and this might not be convenient.

Qumana (don’t ask me to say it) works well, although it is a little buggy. I have most difficultly with images not formatting correctly in the published post. For example justifying the image left or right and I have to go into the web based editor to fix it. Major bummer in my book. But that for me is the major drawback. One great feature of Qumana is the "DropPad" that is a floating widget that you can drop pictures and links into before or during writing an entry and it copies them there automatically. Very useful, because this is a time consuming part of blogging. The interface is simple and fast and it works reasonably well. Suits my purpose anyway.

But check out the Lifehacker story and see what else there is on offer, you might see something you like and makes blogging easier for you.
