Just a heads up for all those people out there who like to play with new software, Thunderbird 2.0 has gone Alpha. But a warning Alpha means Alpha! If you hate it when software has bugs and does not work the way that you want it to when it is in Beta then leave this one right alone. There remains many known bugs in this version and to expect there not to be is making like an ostrich and putting your head in the sand.

So that aside, if you can put up with the Alpha tag then there are some cool new features that are on show in the new version.

• Message tags
• Folder Views, including Favorite folders
• Improved Alerts
• A New Windows Installer
• Find as you Type Feature (not sure what that means)
• Improved add-on manager for themes and extensions
• Updated extension system with better security and localization

You can download Thunderbird 2.0 Alpha and check it out. Me I am a wait and get the final version type. But if you try it out let us know what you think by leaving a comment or email.

Warning for Mac Users: Do not run it from the Disk Image. Bad stuff happens, I don’t have a Mac and don’t know what the alternative is; so do the opposite to running it from the image!
