VoIP to Quadruple by 2010: and that is the U.S Alone!

While it makes perfect sense to me that this will happen and I think it is starting to make sense to many, many more people as the take-up of broadband increases. The article that makes this statement refers to U.S stats only but I imagine that with the call costs via phone carriers in Australia consumers will give them a huge scare any time soon. The penny will finally drop that Aussies and all people of the world can have free phone calls to anywhere in the world with VoIP.

But the most amazing thing of all of this is that the phone companies seem to have their heads in the sand over VoIP. Either they do not know it exists or they are stupid. I am really not sure what they will do when they realise that I get free calls to most of my friends here and overseas for nothing or minimal cost in comparison. They should be very afraid, very.

The only thing that I worry about is the fact that at this present time the reason that VoIP is so cheap is the fact that you pay for your broadband connection, using the bandwidth is using something you have already purchased. Could it be a possibility that in the future the VoIP services, or phone companies will try to charge us twice if we use Voice over IP? Or worse block VoIP altogether?
